If you have version 8 then read on. ![]() Reason for perceived bad performance A lot of people have complained that Internet Explorer 8 does not perform well. When you visit a web site you may get a message like this:- "you are using a browser that is not supported by this site ...... blah blah" or it may display things in a weird way that were properly displayed in earlier versions of Internet Explorer. These symptoms are not really the fault of of Version 8 but usually because web site creators have written their code to comply with older browsers and have not updated their web site to meet new standards. There is a solution within internet explorer 8 ![]() The Solution - The Compatibility View Button Version 8 has a feature that allows you to view web pages that might not otherwise be viewable, or may be poorly displayed, in Version 8. If
you do have a problem like this, then look for the "Compatibilty"
button in the top right corner of the screen (see image right). Note
that this button is only displayed if IE8 thinks there is a
problem. Just click on that button and hopefully the web page will be
viewed OK. Once done, IE will remember the setting. If you cannot see the button then use the "Tools" menu and select "Compatibility View" from there. If that option is greyed out (unusable) then use the next menu option - "Compatibility View Settings". If you cannot see the menu bar then tap the ALT key. The
menu item "Compatibility View Settings" will allow you to see all web
pages that have been added to the list. If the page you are viewing is
not in the list then its URL will appear in the "Add this website" box
as shown in the picture left. Just click on the "Add" button then click
"Close".If you want to remove an item, click on it's name in the list to select it then click "Remove" then "Close" Using compatibility viewing should solve most of the problems with older web sites. ![]() Other Improvements in Verion 8 If you would like to read about all the other new features in Internet Explorer 8 then click here.
