| If you are a Skype user you might have had some emails purportedly from Skype or you might receive some in the future. Some scammers are sending out fake emails about, for example, account cancellation by not responding you won in a Skype lottery, etc Frank Kelett has been in touch with Skype and their response is as follows:- Thank you for contacting Skype Customer Service. Thank you for reporting this incident. Unfortunately we can not prevent this kind of email but are always glad to be informed about them in order to monitor SPAM activities. We have recently seen a lot of Skype-related fake e-mails. These emails are also known as "spoof" or "phishing" emails. The people who send these emails hope that the recipients will reply or click on a link contained in the email and then provide sensitive personal information. Whatever was written in the email (e.g. account cancellation by not responding, you won in a Skype lottery, etc.), please ignore it. Also remember that Skype will NEVER contact you to ask for your password! How do you know if an e-mail is really sent from Skype? All information sent out from Skype can be either found on skype.com or on your Account page. All information sent out to you will be listed there as well as all available promotions. Automatically initiated Skype emails always contain your name or Skype name and are never addressed anonymously and only refer to Skype.com links. There are times when you might submit an email to Skype Customer Service, and will be asked for certain account information or further billing information, this is normal. However, Skype and Skype Staff will NEVER request that you send us your password via email. The only places you are asked for your password are when you log into the Skype application or log into our website at https://secure.skype.com We strongly encourage you to be cautious when responding to any email request for sensitive personal information.
