YEAR 2010

JANUARY 2010

After the very busy December there was no Meeting in January.

Everyone looked forward to the Club’s New Year.

The pace of 2009 was remembered with some of the Highlights having been :-

The Australia Day Sydney Harbour Cruise attended by 135.
The February “Seduction by the Bay” Cocktail Party attended by 82.
The March Anniversary Dinner with a Masked Theme with 92 present.
The April Tour of the Opera House and then Cockatoo Island by 45.
Christmas in July at the Buttai Barn in June with 102 there.
July’s Trivia afternoon for 74 and in the same month the Lavender Bay/Bridge Walk.
September’s Ten Pin Bowling at Bateau Bay.

The Golfers outing on January 27 was the beginning of the Club year of activities.

FEBRUARY 2010

The year’s first Meeting was attended by 183. Six new members were inducted. In the previous 12 months thirty three new members had been inducted.

The Members accepted the Treasurer’s recommendation that the membership fee for 2010-2011 remain at $36 per person.


Hayley French, grand daughter of Barbara and Bruce Evans (all pictured left), was the Guest Speaker informing all of her work in Cambodia with “Destiny Rescue” in Phnom Penh. Various Club members were so moved by the worth of the work they contributed a total of $920.



Nominations for the Management Committee for the year beginning April, 2010 closed at the end of the meeting.

The social program had commenced on February 4 with a party attending The Edinburgh Tattoo in Sydney.

Bowls, Craft, Golf and the Sizzlers all met during the month.


February 18 brought the “Not so Posh Cocktail Party” at The Toowoon Bay Surf Club with 94 enjoying the ambience. Another major success by Marilyn and Graham Nestor.



MARCH 2010


On March 1 there were 53 commencing a five day Getaway at Port Stephens organized by John Powell. A highlight was the John Powell led Tour of the Marine National Park.

The Annual General Meeting was held on March 9. The Election of the Management Committee members for the next year took place. Those elected were :-

Joe Judd was re-elected as Auditor.

Ross Quinn announced that the members appointed to perform the numerous other roles within the Club would be announced at the next Monthly Meeting.

The Financial Statements for the Club – for the year to 31st January 2010 - which had been Audited by Joe Judd, were presented  and accepted by Members. After allowing for funds held as prepayments for future activities, accumulated funds were $4393.66  

In addition to the Annual General Meeting the usual Meeting was held on March 9 with 180 present and  was addressed by a representative of Trade Travel and a representative of Sabah Tourism.

The Members voted to accept the recommendation of the Management Committee, following Bob Fitzpatrick’s letter requesting consideration of the matter, that Life Membership be awarded to Judy and John Ramsay who founded the Club in 2005.


On March 17, St Patrick’s Day, The Sizzlers presented what they claimed were three "genuine Leprechauns" - Len Martin, Charles Harvey and Neville Wynn (pictured left) – who served what they claimed were "Irish Sausages" to the 75 in attendance at Terrigal Rotary Park.



The Annual Anniversary Dinner was held on March 18 at the Bay Sports Club, Bateau Bay. The Songsters (pictured right) presented several musical items to the 130 attending who enjoyed the very entertaining performance.

APRIL 2010

The new Management Committee assumed Office.

At the usual Monthly meeting numerous awards were made. They were :-


To Frank Kelett the outgoing President a Certificate of Appreciation and a Past Presidents Pin. In response Frank (pictured right with Robin Kelett and new President Ross Quionn)  thanked Members and wished the Management Committee a successful year.



To Judy and John Ramsay (pictured left) their Life Members Brooch and Pin. John thanked the Members for the honour and Judy spoke of the wonderful friends she had made within the Club.




The newly instituted President’s  Awards were presented to Pippa Ball, the Secretary for four years and to Frank Bunton the Club Webmaster since the formation of the Club. (Both pictured right).

It was announced that June Harding would be succeeding Marlene Brunsden as the Theatre Party Organiser.


There were 181 present at the Meeting to hear the Guest Speaker, Daniel Barnaby, the grandson of Pippa and Rawson Ball, tell of his experiences as an Exchange Student in Germany. Daniel was thanked by Gaby Schaudinn partly in fluent German (both pictured left).



At the suggestion of Esme Burnett it was decided to once again trial a Book Club to meet monthly.

April 22 saw many take to the water on the Hawkesbury River Postman’s  Cruise (picture below).



During April the Bowls, Golf and Tennis groups were in action and the Songsters practiced.

MAY 2010

"Go South" was the theme early in the month with Marilyn and Graham Nestor leading a Snowy Mountains Tour between May 2 – 7. (It was cold by the look of the picture right).




A Clifton Gardens Walk was next, on May 13, for 22 members. (Picture right has Graham pointing the way.)




Racing at Gosford with luncheon included took place on May 27.

The Meeting on May 11 interrupted the mobility. The Speaker was Debbie Hunt, the NSW State Volunteer Co-ordinator, with the topic “Make Poverty History”.

JUNE 2010

Twenty of the “Ladies who lunch “ met at the Preview Restaurant, Ourimbah on the Campus of the  University on June 1.

No doubt the menu was discussed at the Coast Creations next day.

Tuesday June 8's speaker was Ellen Winton author of "Daughters of Allah" with her topic "A Christian in a Muslim World".

At the Meeting Rawson Ball reported that the Management Committee had decided to set a ceiling membership number of 230.

The Camera Club met on June 9.

A special Ladies Day was held by the Sizzlers on June 16 and 57 participated.

The second of the Golf Clinics organized by Brian Hughes was on June 18.

June 22. Some 36 were off and running, but not at Gosford Track, instead to the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo (picture below). A "Yum Cha" lunch in China Town rounded off the day.



Three teams of male bowlers represented the Club at The Jim Price Memorial Bowls Day at Terrigal Bowling Club on June 28. A pleasant day but no trophy !

JULY 2010



At the monthly Meeting on July 13 Ross Quinn presented Neville Wynn with a Presidents Award for his long standing work as Club Photographer (picture right).








Tony and Doreen Byrne announced at the Meeting they had been awarded Australian Citizenship. All present, 174 in number, congratulated them.

It was announced the Coast Creations would be joining together to make skirts for girls at the Destiny Rescue Orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia where Bruce and Barbara Evans grand daughter, Hayley Evans, works.

Nicki Mann spoke on her family’s decision to move from Zimbawe and their struggle to re-establish their flower growing business at Mangrove Mountain.Her talk was “Starting Again - Thank you Australia”.

Trivia re-entered the Club on July 20 when Greg and Sue Abbott organized a Trivia Afternoon at the Toowoon Bay Surf Club for 70. The Trivia questions had been prepared by John Ramsay and at the end of the contest there was a tied result which led to the need for a further series of questions to find a winning team (pictured left).


On July 22 Carol and Bruce Bennett conducted "An Introduction to Croquet" Session at the Bateau Bay Croquet Club. 



AUGUST 2010

Follow that man said Marilyn Nestor as she and Graham led a walk through Balmain on August 5.

They all made it back in time for the Monthly Meeting on August 10 at which it was announced that the Book Club would not be proceeding due to lack of interest.


At the Meeting, all 168 present congratulated Kay Haerland on her being awarded the "Best in Show Award" for one of her Quilts "Under the Canopy" (pictured left) submitted to a recent Sydney Quilt Show at Darling Harbour. At the same Show Kay also won the Contemporary Art Prize for "Drought", a semi abstract quilt.





The emphasis shifted back to fashion when Mary Lyttleton announced that the Coast Creations would next be sewing shorts for boys at the Destiny Rescue Orphanage. A display of the skirts recently made by 30 who gathered to help was on show.

The month’s speaker was Peter Moore, a recipient of a Cochlear Implant, explaining the basic procedure and the very significant benefit it had been to him.


Theatre followed fashion next. Greg and Sue Abbott had organized a  tour of The State Theatre, Sydney with  lunch afterwards at the City Tattersalls Club on August 24.


SEPTEMBER 2010



With Spring arriving it was time to go bush and from September 6 to 10 there was a Nestor organized "Getaway at Tamworth". Fifty five  got there for a fun time. "Flying Officer Martin" (pictured left) graduated after a visit to the Flight Training Centre in Tamworth. He showed little aptitude at the Nundle Woollen Knitting Mill.




159 present at the Meeting.  Nine visitors.

Ross Quinn thanked Chris Howe for her efforts in producing the Club Newsletter while Frank Kelett had been overseas.

Rawson Ball informed members that the "Bunton Dynasty" in the membership was being increased with Frank’s brother, David, joining.

The Speaker for the Meeting was Lou Metti standing in for Gary Gilday who was unable to attend. Lou told the group about the operations of Radio 50 Plus in Gosford.


Rita and Tony Carlsen (pictured right) announced their status as "New Aussies".







Narelle Harvey announced her retirement after many years as a “Sizzler Helper”. Sixty nine had been at Narelle’s final day of duty in August at Terrigal Haven. Charles is to continue his duties as Onions Chef.

Ten pin bowling was on September 23 with dinner afterwards at The Entrance Leagues Club.

Golfers met at Breakers Club on 29th September.

Those without sore feet set off on the following day, September 30, for a Merilyn and Graham Nestor led walk to the Bi-Centennial Park at Homebush. There were 18 walkers. A feature of the day were the “Fibbing” tales told during the walk. Dee Dimond was emerging as "Rookie of the Year" among the "Fibbers" according to Len Martin and Graham Nestor the current leading experts.
